How to Make a Harvest Basket With Paper

Making a paper harvest basket is a simple craft for children. This craft allows children to use their creativity and to explore their interests, while showing their thankfulness for family, food, friends and other blessings. Instructions

    • 1

Gather all the materials and tools before you begin so that you will have them handy when you get started.

    • 2

Have your child draw a semi-circle onto the brown construction paper, in a size of your choice. This will be the basket. Have him draw a handle for the basket. Cut out both of the shapes.

    • 3

Your child can now draw a design on the basket; for example, a basket weave pattern, a herringbone pattern or a freehand design of his choice.

    • 4

Use a stencil or draw freehand shapes of various harvest-themed fruits and vegetables onto the colored card stock. Choose card stock in the appropriate colors for each one; for example, red for apples, green for zucchini and yellow for corn. Cut out each of these shapes. You can also browse through old magazines or books with your child to find pictures of the fruits and vegetables. Let your child pick out the pictures he likes the most, and then cut them out.

    • 5

Arrange the cut-out pictures of fruits and vegetables at the top of the basket cut-out, in such a way as to mimic a basketful of produce. This will be a dry run, just to get an idea of the final arrangement. Take mental note of the arrangement and then remove the cut-outs.

    • 6

Use your glue and paintbrush to glue the fruit and vegetable cut-outs in a similar arrangement as in Step 5 above. Turn the semi-circle basket shape face down. Glue the bottom of the fruit and vegetable arrangement to the back of the basket cut-out. Position them toward the top of the cut-out, so that most of it will be visible when you turn the basket over.

    • 7

Glue or tape the handle to the basket, also toward the top. Let the glue dry. Help your child hang up his harvest creation.
