Things You'll Need:
- Mirror
- Large fluffy brush
-
Step 1
Replace your foundation, concealer or blush. These cosmetics are best suited for mineral makeup because they are easily applied with a large, fluffy brush and can be buffed on. They also cover the most area on your face and are closest to your skin, which will make sure that your epidermis gets the maximum benefit from exposure to the product.
-
Step 2
Layer on slightly more than necessary. Mineral makeup forms a physical barrier between your skin and the external environment. By layering on slightly more than necessary, you are protecting your skin from the other cosmetics that you are using as well as from solar rays and other environmental factors.
-
Step 3
Blend thoroughly whenever possible. The best way to hide the difference between makeups is not to apply them in stark contrast to each other. If you are using a mineral foundation and an older blush, make sure that you blend them while you apply so that you do not appear to have painted-on cheeks. Mineral makeup appears far more natural than other makeups, so you need to be sure that you are very careful to apply your other makeup in such a way that the contrast is not too evident.
-
Step 4
Keep your old bright colors. If you have a favorite red lipstick or blue eye shadow, there is no reason to replace it with a mineral-based brand. Mineral makeup products are most important when they have high coverage, so focus on areas that you want to look natural first, like your cheeks, brow and neck.
-
Step 5
Wash your face. Many promotional materials claim that you can sleep in your mineral makeup and it will do wonders for your skin. Regardless of whether or not this is true--and most dermatologists still recommend against it--you should always remove all makeup from your face when you have mixed mineral makeup with traditional cosmetics. Traditional makeup will not allow your skin to breathe and can seriously age your appearance fast.
