Step 1
Don't leave teflon pans heating with nothing in them. If teflon pans are left heating on a stove, empty, they can overheat easily. The teflon in the pan then can ignite and start a fire in the pan, creating a major fire hazard and releasing dangerous smoke into the air. Always supervise teflon pans while they are on the stove.
-
Step 2
Don't overheat food that you cook on a teflon pan. Burning food on a teflon pan can overheat the teflon surface, and possibly release dangerous fumes into the air, and your meal. Cook your food well, but don't use teflon pans in conjunction with the highest heat settings on your stove top.
-
Step 3
If teflon starts peeling from the surface of your pan, replace it. Never use metal utensils to scrape or clean a teflon pan, because metal scratches the teflon and leads to possible surface damage of the pan.
-
Step 4
Use a small amount of Pam in conjunction with teflon in order to minimize burning, sticking, scraping and peeling in the teflon pan.
