Instructions

    • 1

Find the area you want to make your fort in. This is important because you can determine how much space you have to use and how many sheets you will need. The living room is a great place to make a fort with sheets, as is your child's bedroom.

    • 2

Get the children involved by giving them instructions. Tell them where to place the sheet and how to pull it tight. Tuck the sheet corners in between bed mattresses or couch cushions. You can also lay a sheet loosely over a coffee table from the couch. This creates a great rooftop. You can pin the sheets to the couch cushions for extra reinforcement. This helps secure the sheets.

    • 3

Put up doors on either side of the fort. This is where extra sheets can add to the creative imagination. Use the clothespins to hold your sheet "doors" in place. Using the clothespins on the inside of the fort will let you determine whether you let guests in or not. Pull your sheets tightly before pinning with the clothespins. This helps hold the fort up and prevents sagging in the center.

    • 4

Get the kids inside and have them take books, crayons, tape and paper. Let them use their imaginations to create the fort decor. They can use the books as a hard surface on which they can color.

    • 5

Have the children decorate their fort using the tape. They can tape up all of their artwork inside and even some on the outside. Let the children have the flashlights to make their creativity run wild inside the fort. Your children will be happy, you may enjoy reliving a moment of your own childhood--or you might just get a break for half an hour.
