How to Fix Cracked Mortar
Brick is a beautiful building material but when the mortar cracks, the brick can come loose. Worse yet, they can allow for water damage. Fix cracked mortar right away when it's spotted. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Chisel
- Hammer
- Water Hose
- Trowel
- Mortar Mix
- Old Rag
- Sealant

Use your hammer and chisel to knock out all the mortar from the cracked seam. Clean out the particles the best you can as you go.

Spray the area with your water hose and allow to dry. (few hours)

Mix up your mortar mix, as directed on the bag.

Carefully push the fresh mortar into the empty seam with your trowel. Avoid getting it on the other bricks.

Wipe any drops and spills up with a wet rag.

Run your finger, or the back of a spoon, down the seam to give a nice finished look. The indention will also ward off water.

After a few days of drying time, wash the area with your hose again.

The following week, apply a good sealant to your mortar as a preventative of this problem repeating itself.
