Step 1
Inspect your canoe for any obvious damage that needs repair. Now is the time to repair your canoe, don't wait until next spring.
-
Step 2
If your canoe has screws or bolts you can tighten, make sure that they are tight. Check that no bolts, nuts, or washers are missing.
-
Step 3
Wash the inside and outside of the canoe with a large sponge and warm, soapy water. Rinse the canoe with water and let it dry.
-
Step 4
Use Armor All Original Shine to buff and clean the exterior of a synthetic canoe. Don't polish the inside of the hull. If you have an aluminum canoe, wash the exterior with warm, soapy water but don't bother shining it clean. The dull patina on the aluminum doesn't hurt the metal.

Step 5
Store your canoe upside down, in a garage, an unheated shop, or covered with a tarp outside. Place the canoe upside down on two sawhorses, one positioned beneath each seat of the canoe.
