Step 1
Decide on the purpose of the handbag. If it's for evening, something small that a cell phone, lipstick and a few dollars would fit in will work. If it's for daytime you will need something much larger.
-
Step 2
Decide the type of look you are going for. Do you want a trendy pocketbook or a classic handbag that will look right for many years.
-
Step 3
Determine what your budget is. If you are going for a trendy look, you won't want to spend as much as you would if the handbag is going to last for many years.
-
Step 4
Decide on the type of material you want. Handbags come in leather, fabric etc. This will also tie in with your purpose for the bag. For example, you would not want beaded for everyday as it is not durable enough.
-
Step 5
Take a look at the different handbags in the store. Designer handbags are more expensive because of the name, but they may also offer better construction. Examine designer brands like Coach, Prada, Gucci, Fendi and Louis Vuitton and compare them to the non designer brands. Take note of things like stitching and hardware.
-
Step 6
Put the handbag over your shoulder or hold it and see how it works with your body type. Tiny bags will not look as good on larger women. Large bags may overpower a smaller frame. Look in a full length mirror.
-
Step 7
Once you have found the handbag that is in your budget, fits your body properly and meets your needs. Ask yourself the big question ~ Do I love it? If the answer is Yes, there is your handbag.
