Things You'll Need

  • Crock-Pot
  • 2 lbs. cube steak cut into about 4 inch pieces
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 2 tsp. dehydrated onions
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (optional)
  • Mixing spoon
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • Cooking oil (optional)
  • 2 cups self-rising flour (optional)

Instructions

  1. Crock-Pot Only Method

    • 1

      Rinse off the meat in cold water, and sprinkle salt and pepper over it on both sides. Place the seasoned meat into the Crock-Pot, and turn it on high.

      Pour 4 cups of beef broth into the Crock-Pot. Add the garlic powder, onion powder and dehydrated onions to the Crock-Pot. If you like mushroom gravy, add one can of condensed cream of mushroom soup to the crock pot. Stir the mixture with a mixing spoon. Let the contents of the crock pot cook for one hour on high.

      Add the 3 tbsp. of cornstarch to the 1/2 cup of water. Stir the mixture together. Pour the mixture into the Crock-Pot. Let it cook on high for another hour. Stir the mixture.

      Reduce the heat to medium, and cook for three hours. Stir the contents of the Crock-Pot occasionally. Serve the cube steak and gravy on a bed of rice.

    Pan-Fried And Crock-Pot Method

      Pour 4 cups of beef broth into the Crock-Pot. Add the garlic powder, onion powder and dehydrated onions to the Crock-Pot. If you like mushroom gravy, add one can of condensed cream of mushroom soup to the Crock-Pot. Stir the mixture with a mixing spoon. Let the contents of the crock pot cook for one hour on high. You want the broth hot before adding the meat.

      Add the 3 tbsp. cornstarch to the 1/2 cup of water. Stir the mixture together. Pour the mixture into the Crock-Pot. Let it cook on high for another hour. Stir the mixture.

      Rinse off the meat in cold water, and sprinkle salt and pepper over it on both sides. Dredge the meat through the self-rising flour, and coat it thoroughly.

      Pour 1 inch of cooking oil in a frying pan, and heat the oil on medium high heat. Sprinkle a little bit of flour over the top. When the flour begins bubbling, add the breaded meat. Cook the meat until the breading is fully browned. If the meat isn't completely done inside, it's okay. It finishes cooking in the crock pot. Remove the meat from the pan, and drain on paper towels.

      Add the meat to the gravy mixture in the crock pot. Reduce the heat to medium, and cook for two hours. Stir the contents of the crock pot occasionally. Serve the cube steak and gravy on a bed of rice.
