Be a College Hockey Fan
Be a College Hockey Fan

This guide will help you to be the best college hockey fan ever.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A team to support.
  • Various team paraphernalia to show how awesome you think they are.
  1. Step 1

First of all, this guide is gong to focus on what to do at a hockey game. It won't help you so much with following a team far away from where you live. To make this easier, you should decide right now that you really love a team that plays close to you. If you can't do this then you can still follow my steps while watching a game at home. Just be prepared for your family to look at you really weird.

  2. Step 2

Once you have a team that you now love, you should learn a bit about them. I will admit that even though I am a huge fan of my school's team and watch every game, I cannot name every player, definitely do not know their stats and couldn't tell you which player is on what line. You don't have to devote your entire brain to memorizing useless facts, just know the basics. You should know a few key ice players and their numbers, the goalie's last name, any rivalries, any "curses", and any special abilities of some players (ex: you should know if one player is particularly aggressive and gets a lot of penalties, or if one has an amazing shot from far out).

  3. Step 3

You also should know a little about each game. You must know the name of the opposing team, how your team has done against them in the past, and the last name of their goalie. Between this and information about your team, there is very little you must know to be a good fan. You could be an overachiever and memorize every little detail, but you won't really gain anything.

  4. Step 4

When attending a game, you have to wear something that shows who you support. There are many levels of this. In the very least, you should have a t-shirt supporting the team. However, it is also fun to have novelty hats, signs, face paint, other exciting props. Sometimes body paint can be used, however not all arenas like this. They much prefer you in full clothing and may "forcefully eject you" if they decide you don't look good in only body paint.

  5. Step 5

An important part of a hockey game is the loud and obnoxious fans. You must be able to cheer loud and enthusiastically when something good happens for your team, when something bad happens for your team, and when nothing happens at all. You know you did a good job if you lose your voice during the game. This may be hard if you are normally quiet like me, but you have to just decide you don't care. Even if you need some liquid encouragement first (NOT IN THE ARENA, they really don't like this), make sure that you yell as loud as you can at everything that happens.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you stay dedicated to the team. No matter how bad they are. Even if they don't win a single game all season... Even if they don't score a goal all season, you have to remain loyal and enthusiastic. You will be dressed and loud at every game, waiting for them to suddenly be good. And when it happens, you will be prepared and proud to know that you stuck with them.

on 9/16/2008 I'm more of an LSU football fanatic, but your steps apply to that too!
