There are many, many ways to take care of oneself holistically. This article will touch on a few key topics often overlooked in the healing of the body / mind.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

REALIZE THAT BODY AND MIND ARE NOT SEPARATE:

Chronic pain, heart disease and other conditions have been proven to worsen under stressful circumstances. The term commonly referred to as stress is no more than a "condition" of the mind- meaning that what one person sees as negative stress, another does not.

  2. Step 2

    which leads me to.....

    WATCH YOUR WORDS:

(Special thanks to MightyDreamer for her article on "The Power of Words").

The fact is, your words CAN hurt you. Literally. Is your back "broken" or "killing" you?

  3. Step 3

DON'T "OWN" THE HEALTH ISSUE AT HAND:

Whatever health problem you are experiencing: Anxiety, depression, cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis........ when you speak of it, never refer to it as "my".

    "My cancer has come back."

"My arthritis is acting up today."

"My fibromyalgia gets worse in wet weather."

"My anxiety is horrible when I'm in public."

Owning a health concern simply attaches it to you on a subconscious level.

  4. Step 4

NEVER LET SOMEONE ELSE TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T CHANGE OR HEAL YOUR SITUATION:

Very often people allow their health care provider to determine the outcome of their health issues. None of us are the Almighty, therefore, we cannot accurately predict with certainty the outcome of anyone's illness.

By the same token, people often allow family or friends to make determinations based on family history or friend's stories.

Create your own healing story without the bias of statistics, genetics or anyone else's opinions.

  5. Step 5

    LOVE YOURSELF AND OTHERS:

This may sound trite, but it truly is not. Love heals. It is that simple. It may not cure your health issue, but it can heal.

Love is appreciation for the day and whatever and whoever is part of it.

Love is looking in your mirror and finding that person fascinating regardless of any flaws or problems that you see.

Love is seeing greatness in nature- big and small.

Love is seeing yourself as perfect regardless of what others might say.

Tips & Warnings
  • To re-iterate: taking a different perspective on the healing process does not mean that you will be cured of your ailment. It does mean that it's possible.
  • A holistic perspective means using your own innate healing "powers" of the mind as well as the expertise of health care providers; from both mainstream medicine and complimentary or alternative therapies.
