Things You'll Need:

Step 1
Fill the ice opening of the ball with as many ice cubes or crushed ice as you can.

Put a half cup of rock salt in with the ice and screw the lid shut.

In mixing bowl, stir a pint of half and half or whole cream with a little over a third of a cup of sugar. Adjust the sugar to your taste.
For vanilla ice cream, add one and one/half teaspoons of vanilla extract. For other flavors, experiment with just about any fruit, syrup, or crushed cookies you can imagine. -
Step 4
Mix the ingredients until they are well stirred.

Pour the liquid ice cream mixture into the metal cylinder of the ball.

Screw the lid back on by hand.

Step 7
Shake, roll, and use the ball for about ten minutes. If the ice cream hasn't set, stir it with a plastic utensil, and then shake it for ten more minutes.

Step 8
You'll have a pint or more of ice cream after the ice cream has set.
