Step 1
PICK UP CLUTTER AS YOU GO. If you're going into the kitchen, take those dirty glasses and put them straight into the dish washer. As you head to the bathroom, take along the stray brush that found its way to the living room. Do this as you go throughout the day, and the house is already looking better. No extra time needed. DECLUTTER DAILY.
-
Step 2
DON'T DO IT ALL IN ONE DAY. Clean the windows on Monday and Thursday. Do the dusting on Wednesday. Clean the bathroom on Tuesday. On Saturdays do the floors. One major chore per day keeps the time to a minimum.
-
Step 3
GET THE KIDS INVOLVED. Have the kids make their own beds each morning and pick up their toys every night. Older kids can help with laundry or lawn work. Don't try to do it all. Kids need to learn responsibility anyway.
-
Step 4
CLEAN THE BATHROOM. Clean the bathroom each day in small increments. You make multiples trips to the toilet every day anyway, right? So clean the sink with disinfectant in the morning. Wipe up the toilet around noon. Clean the tub after you shower, or delegate that one too.
-
Step 5
DON'T DO THE WEEK'S LAUNDRY ALL AT ONCE. Do one load every day for a large family, every other day for smaller families. If it's just you, one or two loads a week may be enough. Separate the clothes into 4 separate baskets. One for light colors, one for darks, and one for whites, and one for towels and linens. When it's time to wash, just pick up a basket and load. This will lessen laundry time considerably. Fold each load as you take it out of the dryer. If you have kids, have them put up their own folded laundry.

on 9/16/2008 Super housekeeping tips! I am a work-at-home mom with a toddler and it's difficult to do any major cleaning when he's being busy (pretty much whenever he's not sleeping). Keeping up a little everyday sounds like a good idea. I am always guilty of letting the laundry go and I always regret it. Thanks for this great article. *****
