Step 1
finder menuClick on your Apple Computer Finder desktop. Go to the Menu labeled Finder and select Preferences.

finder preferenceThe first Finder preference tab is marked General. Under this tab is where you can select what items you'd like to show up on your Desktop, what a New Finder window opens and the delay time on spring-loaded folders and windows.

finder labelsThe second Finder preference tab is marked Labels. While you can not change the color-coding on these labels, you can change what wording shows up in the boxes to the side of each color bar. Changing the actually color wording to something more work-related like proof or priority can help you through your workflow.

finder sidebarThe third Finder preference tab is marked Sidebar. This is where you can select which devices and folders should appear in your Finder's sidebar tab.

finder advanced tabThe fourth Finder preference tab is marked Advanced. This is the tab you look to when you wish to have all your files show their extensions or if you wish to turn off your Trash warning whenever you empty your trash.
