Find a Blood Bank
Find a Blood Bank

The local blood bank may be just around the corner. Most people are unaware of blood bank locations in their own town, even if they are right down the street. Donating blood is one of the best ways to give to other people in need. This article will show you how to find a blood bank in your neighborhood.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet access
  • Phone
  1. Step 1

Visit Bloodbanker.com and type in your zip code. This is a fantastic blood bank data base. It has listings all over the country.

  2. Step 2

Choose the closest blood bank to your home or work. This will make it easier and more convenient to donate.

  3. Step 3

Call the blood bank listed in your area and ask if they are accredited by the AABB. This agency makes sure each site uses clean, honest, and safe donation practices.

  4. Step 4

Visit the blood bank to set up an appointment. Of course you can do it over the phone as well, but visiting the physical location will allow you to see the facility in person to make sure you feel comfortable in that atmosphere.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all people are accepted for blood donation. If your iron levels are low, you are pregnant, have an illness, or don't weigh enough, you will get rejected.

on 9/15/2008 This is particularly timely where I am -- not far from the Los Angeles train crash. Giving blood is such a helpful thing to do even without catastrophes!
