How to Choose the Correct Color Clothing if Your Hair Is Black and Your Eyes Are Brown or Hazel
People with black hair often look stunning in crisp colors, but black hair can be a problem if you also have brown or hazel eyes. The reason is that black hair has color undertones that are different than those in brown or hazel eyes. Those with these combinations thus have to choose colors of clothes that work with the undertones in both the eyes and hair. Generally, this means sticking to neutral colors, deep purples or greys, but your skin tone also plays a role in what will look good on you.

1
Look in the mirror and determine the undertones in your hair. Cool colors are those with undertones of pink or blue. Warm colors are those with undertones of gold, yellow or olive. Most people with black hair have cool undertones, particularly blue.

2
Look at your skin. Ask yourself if you see more pink or blue undertones or yellow or olives. Those with fair skin generally have pink or blue undertones and thus fall into the cool color category. The darker your skin, the darker colors you can wear. Lean toward earthy colors or pastels if you are fairer skinned.

3
Eliminate any clothing that uses gold, yellow or green-based undertones. Black hair tends to have cool undertones, so gold, yellow or green-based clothing tends to clash or make you look sickly, especially because it can draw attention to the green-blue hues of hazel eyes.

4
Eliminate any clothing that has a muddy color like dusty blue. Although these colors can be striking on others, on someone with black hair, they create too much contrast, says L.A. color expert Jill Kirsh.

5
Go through the clothes available to you and determine the occasions at which you will wear each piece. Keep business attire to neutral colors, particularly grey. True or silvery white contrasts well with black hair and brown or hazel eyes. Black always works well and is a little more wear-friendly because of its tendency to slim your figure, but add a splash of color on an item such as an undershirt or scarf to keep from looking dismal.
-
6
Wear any color that is a combination of both warm and cool colors. The cool undertones in these combinations will blend with your hair, while the warmer undertones will work with brown or hazel eyes. An example is a deep purple such as eggplant. This color is a combination of a warm red and cool blue and thus won't clash with your hair, but it presents a striking combination with green.
