Here's how to do the most classic snowboard trick of all time, the method air.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Head toward a small jump. Practice launching off the jump with a flat base, just like you would do an indy air. Instead, grab the edge of your board between your front and rear bindings with your front hand.

(This isn't close to a method air, just a warm up.)

  2. Step 2

Next, do the same thing, except ride toward the jump a little bit on your toe edge. Launch off the hit with a "I Love What You Do For Me Toyota" donkey kick. Don't grab the board just yet.

  3. Step 3

Now do it again, except when you are kicking in the air, grab the spot on the heelside edge between the front and back bindings again with your front hand.

  4. Step 4

Now your going to do that same trick again, the kick and the grab, except your going to tweak your body so instead of just a straight air, your going to rotate your board in front of you while you put your hand down for the grab.

Just do what you did before while rotating back a bit, as if you were going to do attempt a heelside 180. Don't rotate your body away from straight air position, just rotate your feet enough to get the board briefly in front of you.

  5. Step 5

Land the method air by rotating your feet back to a straight landing after you release the grab.

  6. Step 6

Ride away. If you nail this trick, and can hold the grab for a long time, it will impress just about everyone. This is the most stylish and soulful trick in the history of snowboarding. How a rider does a method says a lot about their character as a rider.

Craig Kelly, Jamie Lynn and Terje Haakenson have thrown down some of the most stylish method airs ever.
