How to Make Friends in the Tribal Phase of Spore

Befriending other species in the Tribal Phase is a bit different from the Creature Phase. Instead of gestures, you use musical instruments. Some tribes will probably need a gift before you can sing to them. Here's how it works.

Instructions

1. Save up some food. Invariably, some of the tribes you would like to befriend will start out hostile. In order to avoid wiping them out, you will need to present them with a gift basket of food. You will need at least 10 Food to do this. Right-click on their hut or food pile to leave them a gift. This will bring the hostile tribe's attitude towards you to neutral.

2. Make some instruments. Three additions can be built on your village. Each one provides a different type of musical instrument. There are Wood Flutes, Maracas and Didgeridoos. Your creatures can only carry one instrument at a time, however, you can assign part of your tribe to carry one instrument, the rest another or divide your tribe into three sections. This is best, since most tribes will want to hear all three instruments. The only exceptions will be the first and possibly second tribes you contact; they are typically content with one instrument.

3. Divide the tribe. In order to facilitate befriending new tribes, you will need at least six "players" (tribe members with musical instruments.) Try and get two of each instrument. More is always better, but two will do.

4. Leave a lookout. Wild animals will try to steal your food from time to time. It is wise to leave at least one member of your tribe at your village to watch over things and scare off food thieves.

5. Play for the crowd. Click on any member of a neutral tribe to play for them once your tribe is assembled and outfitted with instruments. Your tribe will line up and play. Instead of mimicking the other tribe, this time you will need to watch for their instrument requests. These show up in small bubbles above the tribe. Play whatever instruments they want to hear and you will advance your standing with them. Play for them twice and you will gain them as allies.

Tips & Warnings

• You will gain the ability to make more instruments as you befriend more tribes.

• Befriending all tribes in the Tribal Phase will give you a Religious society in the Civilization Phase. Befriending only some of the tribes will give you an Industrial society. Not befriending anyone will give you a Military society.
