Here's how to repair a scratched DVD so it will work again.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Examine the surface of the DVD. Try to find the location of the scratch or skip.

  2. Step 2

The skip could be caused by grease or dirt, so the first step is to clean the entire cd with a damp, soft cotton cloth or monitor cleaning wipe.

  3. Step 3

If the DVD still doesn't play, you'll have to polish the scratches out.

  4. Step 4

Some people use toothpaste to polish DVDs. Wipe a small amount of non-baking soda toothpaste over the surface of the DVD.

  5. Step 5

If this doesn't work, by a DVD refinisher at Radioshack. This is a little device that spins and polishes DVD's, taking out the scratches in the bottom layer of plastic.

  6. Step 6

Some video stores also offer DVD and game resurfacing. See if your local store offers the service.
