How to make Pigs in Blanket

Whether you make these for a gathering or just a snack you'll love this original Dutch recipe for Pigs in Blanket. These are always a hit with my family.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3/4 lb pork sausage
  • 1/4 lb hamburger
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup wheaties (crushed after measuring)
  • salt and pepper Biscuit Dough;
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  1. Step 1

    Mix together the meat, egg and wheaties; season with salt and pepper.

  2. Step 2

    Sift dry ingredients together then work in shortening with a fork or pastry blender. Mix throughly adding milk as you mix.

  3. Step 3

    Roll out dough a little thicker then pie crust; cut into 3 inch squares. Place a roll of meat onto square and pinch edges together.
    Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If edges don't stay together brush a little milk on it.
  • These are great served with ketsup or mustard.

on 1/16/2009 I've never tried this. I saved it to favorites. I always thought Pigs in Blanket were little sausages that you wrapped in biscuit mix. I've done those, this sounds so much better.
