Step 1
In order for the duct tape to stick, your rain gear will need to be perfectly dry, inside and out.

Cut two strips of duct tape, each one slightly longer than the hole, tear or rip.

Place one strip over the outside of the hole, on the exterior of the jacket.

Then find the hole from the inside, and put the second strip over the inside of the hole.

Press down firmly so both strips of duct tape stick together through the hole.

When duct tape sticks to itself, it firmly bonds.

Step 7
Add additional pieces of duct tape as needed. You may wish to cross another piece over the repair in order to add strength.

This technique works best on puncture holes or not structural tears. If a seam rips out, duct tape can seldom handles the stress, and you will need new rain gear sooner, rather than later.
