If you have a small hole or tear in your rain jacket or rain pants, temporarily repair it with duct tape.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

In order for the duct tape to stick, your rain gear will need to be perfectly dry, inside and out.

  2. Step 2

Cut two strips of duct tape, each one slightly longer than the hole, tear or rip.

  3. Step 3

Place one strip over the outside of the hole, on the exterior of the jacket.

  4. Step 4

Then find the hole from the inside, and put the second strip over the inside of the hole.

  5. Step 5

Press down firmly so both strips of duct tape stick together through the hole.

  6. Step 6

When duct tape sticks to itself, it firmly bonds.

  7. Step 7

Add additional pieces of duct tape as needed. You may wish to cross another piece over the repair in order to add strength.

  8. Step 8

This technique works best on puncture holes or not structural tears. If a seam rips out, duct tape can seldom handles the stress, and you will need new rain gear sooner, rather than later.
