How to Make Paper Flower Pomanders
Pomanders are spherical floral arrangements consisting of tightly clustered flowers. A ribbon loop is attached to the top of the pomander to create a handle. Pomanders can be made using paper flowers instead of fresh ones in order to cut costs and prolong the life of the arrangement. Use paper flower pomanders as decorations for special occasions or for display in your home. You can display your paper flower pomanders seasonally or year-round, depending on your preferences.

1
Lay a stack of white pieces of paper on a flat surface. Draw four flower shapes, 3 to 4-in. in diameter, with seven rounded petals. Draw four more flower shapes in the same style; these should be 2 to 3-in. in diameter. Draw four flower shapes, 1 to 2-in. in diameter, with 10 to 11 pointed petals. All 12 shapes will be assembled to create one paper flower.

2
Lay a paper towel on a flat surface. Place a sheet of wax paper over the paper towel. Cut out your flower shapes with scissors and line them up on top of the wax paper.

3
Fill a spray bottle with water. Spray a light mist over the paper flowers to dampen them. Wet a paint brush in water and dip it in watercolor paint. Brush the paint over the surface of each flower. Brush on a second color around each of the flowers' edges. Let the paper flowers dry for 30 minutes.

4
Repeat Steps 1 through 3 to create 10 to 11 more sets of flowers.
-
5
Gather the first set of flower shapes and crumple them to add texture. Smooth the shapes back out. Stack the four largest flower shapes on top of one another, positioning each one so that it is off-center to the flower below it. Stack the four medium flowers on top of the larger flowers in the same manner. Add the four smaller flowers with pointed petals to the stack. Turn these flowers as you add them so that the petals are off-center from each other. Stick a pearl-headed pin through the top center of the assembled paper flowers and push it through all the layers until the pearl head is resting on the top layer.
-
6
Grasp a 4-in. Styrofoam or floral foam ball in one hand. Grasp the assembled flower in your other hand. Attach the flower to the ball by pushing the pin into the foam ball. Push on the pearl head of the pin to press the flower to the ball's surface.
-
7
Assemble the remaining 10 or 11 sets of paper flowers in the same manner as the first flower. Attach each completed flower to the ball, positioning them side by side to cover its surface.
-
8
Cut a 13-in. piece of 1/2-in. wide ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half with the right side facing outward to create a loop. Stick a pin through both ends to secure the loop. Push the pin into the ball between the flowers at the top, creating a handle.
