In most states, you'll need to register 30 days or more prior to the election.

You need to get a voter registration form. Find one at the local library, town hall, or department of motor vehicles.

Fill out the form and send it into your city's election office. That way, you'll be registered when you vote locally.

Some people can't vote. Persons with a felony conviction can't vote in many states. Individuals under the age of 18 can't vote. And, you can't vote if you aren't a citizen of the United States.

In seven different states, you can register on the same day as election day.
