Unclog a sink drain with a toilet plunger. Drains clog with hair and residue in the exact same way toilets clog. A toilet plunger (rinsed off and cleaned, of course) can easily unplug some backed up sinks.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Rinse or wash off your toilet plunger in the toilet by adding cleaner to the toilet bowl and letting the plunger soak for a few minutes. Flush the toilet to rinse the cleaner off.

  2. Step 2

Take the small drain stopper out of the sink. Place it to the side.

  3. Step 3

Put the plunger over the sink drain. Rapidly plunge up and down for about 15 seconds to a minute. See if you can dislodge the clog from the drain. Repeat if necessary.

  4. Step 4

If you need more suction power, consider temporarily blocking the drain hole (those little holes near the inside lip of the sink that allow for air ventilation) with your hand or plastic to create an airtight suction seal.

  5. Step 5

If your sink still won't drain, you'll need to use another method, like drain cleaner or a snake auger to clear your drain.
