on 3/4/2009 We celebrate "Reformation Day" which is when Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses on the wall of the Wittenberg church to start the Reformation. We do many of the things you talked about, and my daughters dress up in historical costume, biblical characters or as literary characters. All evangelical churches began with the Reformation, and it is a good alternative to Halloween.

As a Christian my children have never been trick or treating. We have an unHalloween party every year and do things as a family. I think that it is important for children to learn that there are other ways to have fun on a secular holiday. We live in an area where we don't get trick or treaters but I have done the passing out of tracks and bibles in the past. I don't believe our children should be punished for the rituals of others so I have choosen to make Halloween disappear and created it into our own family ritual. Take something evil and use it for something good.

on 2/9/2009 I'm sorry, but as a Christian I do not agree with you. Halloween is not about the costumes but the significance behind it. As Christians we should not participate in Halloween at all. I heard a testimony of a former witch and she clarified what Halloween meant. She also clarified what a pumpkin stands for, what dressing up in costumes stand for and what saying trick or treat stand for. You might want to check it out on youtube. You will be amazed. Old fashion Christianity is the way to go these days. Instead use this day to evangelize and hand out bibles with literature to kids.
