I sometimes get to the end of the week and haven't done any shopping. So, I have to look around in the refrigerator and cabinets to see what I can whip together for a quick and tasty meal. I have used this recipe one time and it came out so good that I decided to make it again this month. I had a few extra ingredients on hand and decided to share with all.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp.chopped garlic
  • 2 tbls. brown sugar
  • 2 tbls. brown mustard
  • 1 tbls. distilled white vinegar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce ( my favorite is Sweet Baby Ray's)
  • 10 - 12 inch Non-stick skillet or saute pan
  • 4 -6 quart Crock-Pot or Slow Cooker
  • Slotted spoon
  • Stirring Spoon
  • Assorted measuring cups and measuring spoons
  1. Step 1

Cook the chopped onion in the sauté pan until slightly softened and translucent. Remove onions from pan and set aside.

  2. Step 2

Cook the ground beef in the sauté pan until cooked through. Drain all fat by removing the ground beef from the pan using a slotted spoon.

  3. Step 3

Add the cooked ground beef to the Crock-Pot.

  4. Step 4

Add the chopped onion, chopped garlic, brown sugar brown mustard, distilled white vinegar, salt, black pepper, and ketchup into the Crock-Pot. Stir to blend well.

  5. Step 5

Add the BBQ sauce over the beef mixture. **DO NOT STIR**

  6. Step 6

Place the cover on the Crock-Pot. Turn the Crock-Pot to HIGH setting and cook for 1 hours.

  7. Step 7

After 1 hour, quickly lift the lid and add the 1/2 cup of water. Cover quickly and cook for another 1 1/12 hours on HIGH.

  8. Step 8

Serve in a bowl "chile style" with drop biscuits or "Sloppy Joe" style on toasted hamburger buns. Top with shredded Mexican Blend shredded cheese or Sharp Cheddar Shredded cheese, if desirable. The hot beef will melt the cheese. It's just delish !!

Tips & Warnings
  • Alternatively this dish can be cooked by setting the Crock-Pot to the LOW setting for 4 - 6 hours, checking quickly at 4 hours to see if it is done or needs additional cooking time. If this method is used, add the 1/2 cup of water at the 2 hour mark and continue cooking.
