One night as I was making dinner for my sister-in-law, I realized I didn’t have any garlic bread in the freezer. So, I created a recipe for garlic bread with what I had on hand. I had a fresh loaf of sourdough bread, butter, and some garlic powder. The next thing I knew, we were munching on freshly baked sourdough garlic bread right along with our spaghetti and salad. Even my girls liked it! My oldest said, “Mommy, you have to write an eHow article on this!” So, here are the steps to follow for my recipe for garlic bread using sourdough bread.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sourdough bread, sliced
  • Butter
  • Garlic powder
  • Microwave
  • Cookie sheet
  • Oven
  1. Step 1

Turn on your broiler to heat up while you prepare the sourdough bread.

  2. Step 2

The loaf of sourdough bread I had on hand was round. I sliced it across and then cut the long slice in half.

  3. Step 3

If your butter isn’t soft, place it in the microwave for about 10 or 15 seconds to soften it. Don’t melt it all the way because melted butter added to the bread at this point just makes it soggy. Spread the butter over the sourdough bread slices.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle each piece of bread with garlic powder. The amount you use is up to you. How much do you love garlic?

  5. Step 5

Place the sourdough bread slices onto your cookie sheet.

  6. Step 6

Put the prepped sourdough garlic bread under the broiler. Watch carefully and pull the bread out when the tops and crust are nicely browned.

Tips & Warnings
  • Serve this garlic bread with any pasta dish.
  • Sourdough garlic bread would be the perfect addition to your soup and salad fare.
  • Consider using freshly minced garlic if you have it on hand.
  • Really, any bread would work when using this recipe for garlic bread.
  • The Smart Balance brand butter works great for this recipe too.
