In selecting milking goats, there are few points to remember.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • milk, goat
  1. Step 1

Size - a large goat will give more milk than a small one. A female that weights about 42 kilos and stands 67 centimeters high above the shoulders is a good size.

  2. Step 2

Personality - goats have personality. A motherly, docile expression indicates fondness for young. Getting a goat that is gentle in handling, that is, tame and friendly, is also important.

  3. Step 3

Body Shape - The udder or milk bag of a good milk goat should be large, wide and hanging, with uniform large teats. The udder should feel soft and yielding to the touch

on 1/2/2009 You might have mentioned the strength of the attachment supports of the udder. An udder swinging freely from the body will be knocked about when the doe walks, resulting in poor milk flavor and susceptibility to disease. The teat type to choose is that which matches the hand size of the person who will milk it, or the machine milking it, and many goats have teats so large that milking becomes inconvenient.

on 11/29/2008 Thank you for the article. There are actually big differences in the quantity and quality of milk between the different breeds. Some have rich milk and others have a very large production of milk.
