Things You'll Need:
- Good manners
- Patience
- Whispering ability
- Shoes that don't have loud heels
-
Step 1
Be quiet. Whisper to those you wish to talk to. Especially around those who are reading or studying.
-
Step 2
Have a pencil and paper ready so you can write down the call number of a book, instead of always asking the worker to find it for you.
-
Step 3
If you have to print off a lot of pages, don't print them all at once. Print half of your document at a time so as to allow those who are printing just a single page to get in and out and not be late to wherever they are going.
-
Step 4
If you bring a drink, make sure it is closeable, with a lid. A water bottle usually is acceptable. Open sources of food and drink are usually not allowed as they could spill. Loud crunchy food is also usually not appreciated.

on 11/30/2009 Whispering is no longer required of library patrons. Usually though, I remind kids to use their inside voices. My number one annoyance though is cell phones... both people who talk on them loudly and those that come up to the desk and then hold a conversation while they want me to help them. My favorite is when people tell me to hold on so they can continue their conversation... when there is a line. I really wish more public libraries would ban them.

on 7/6/2009 Everybody should know this by now, if they don't something seriously wrong with that person! 5 Stars!

on 10/12/2008 Thank you for practicing good manners in the 21st century. At our local library we have mothers calling across the aisles for their children and people answering their cell phones.
