Things You'll Need:
- Effort
-
Step 1
Take your time in the things you do. Chew your food with attention to the taste. This is a pleasure too often ignored. Your digestive system will thank you also. Drive with attention to your surroundings and the noises around you. Put the phone down and turn the radio off to enjoy the beauty of silence. This will also make you a safer driver. Talk with attention to the words. Really hear what is being said. You will learn about yourself and the people in your life. They will appreciate the support and time. Your relationships will be stronger.
-
Step 2
Complete self checks regard to emotional and physical status. Pay attention to how your body is reacting to stimulus. Are you comfortable or are you stressed? Why is your body tense? Pay attention to the environment or current concerns which are facing you. Make a plan to resolve or decrease the effect of a stressor. In resolving the source you will have more energy and ability to focus on the important things in life. Use a stress reliever which works for you for a mental vacation. For example: read a joke; pay attention to the lyrics of a song; or remember a humorous conversation with a friend.
-
Step 3
Focus on one task at a time. Give your attention and effort to one thing at a time. Multi-tasking is great and appears productive. However, not so much when ten tasks are in process and none get completed. Give a task your all. Get it done. Move on. The odds of the task being done right and not needing to be redone will be increased. Your mind will be able to focus. You will have an achievement to reflect upon. Take the time to take a breath and relax for five minutes per day. Perhaps in between tasks. This will rejuvenate you and allow energy for the next task. This will increase your productivity also.

on 9/11/2008 Excellent in depth article. I like what you said about paying attention to what your food tastes like. I find myself eating a meal and then wondering, what happened, how did that taste, I didn't even pay attention. Great article to make us step back and take life a little slower! Thanks!
