How to Create a Pimped Out Car

Pimped out cars are seen all over the country and are modified for a variety of styles, such as the low rider or street racer. The car is an artistic, mechanical and physical embodiment of the individual driving it, and many people love to show their individualism. You can do anything to your car, from applying custom paint jobs and body kits, to all sorts of mechanical modifications. Sound systems and video monitors are also popular with enthusiasts.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what style and modifications you want. You want so pimp out your car so it will stand out in a crowd and be noticed. There are many styles and different modifications to choose from. To help you make your choice, consider reading some car magazines for ideas or looking around at other pimped out cars. This will help you get a feel for what you are looking for.

Start working on the body. This is what people will look at first. If you’re doing the street-racer style, then a body kit is the first thing you want to buy. There are body kits for cars of all makes and models. Sometimes they are available from the manufacturer, but most kits come from after-market distributors. They are very easy to install and you can do this in your own garage.

    • 3

Paint the car. Paint jobs are another way to show off your car and low riders are a great example. You can paint flames, pinstripes, and murals on the car body for a great look. There are many great artists out there in this field and the only limit to what you can paint on your car is your imagination. If you don’t have the skills for this job then seek out one of these artists.

Add rims and tires to your car. They are very important to the look of your car, so be very careful with your choice. If you are doing a low rider themed car then spoked wheels and white side-wall tires are very popular. For the street racer, the performance look is desirable and aluminum rims and racing tires like run flats are the route to go.

    • 5

Personalize the interior of the car. If you are doing a street-racer type car you can put in roll cages, racing seats, competition-type gauges, racing-style accelerator, brake and clutch pedals. They are not that expensive, and are easy to install using the existing mounts in your car. For a low rider, you can add chain link steering wheels and neighborhood plaques in chrome. The upholstery is something to change to enhance the look. Choose from leather, tuck and roll, and crushed velvet–a low rider favorite. You can also install sound systems, video monitors, and gaming consoles, depending on your taste. Most car audio shops will install these on-site unless you have the knowledge and want to do it on your own.

Install mechanical modifications. The mechanical modifications you choose will relate directly to your choice of car. If your car is a low rider style car, suspension hydraulics is a must because bouncing is popular with that crowd. Hydraulics are very complicated to install and you should have a professional do this work. For the street racer, performance is everything so engine modifications are important. You can modify the power and drive train to enhance performance, such as adding ball bearing turbochargers and custom exhaust systems to racing transmissions. These items are very high tech and require knowledge and skill to install them, and if you are not up to the task, find what racers call a "tuner" and get it done right.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are a street-racer type then NOS (nitrous oxide) is something you should only consider installing and using if you have the skill and knowledge to operate that type of system.
