WeatherBug Desktop is an application that you can put right on your desktop. Get weather information with just a click of a button. With WeatherBug Desktop, not only do you get general weather, you can also view current storms and get alerts when extreme weather is on its way to your area. WeatherBug Desktop is free, but with a paid subscription, you can even change the skin and get weather information for friends and family.

Instructions

      Go to WeatherBug and download the desktop application. You put in your zip code and simply select “Run” or "Open” when the pop up appears.

      Install the program with the easy-to-understand directions. You will be asked for your zip code and then can chose a location closest to your home to get current weather conditions.

      View the weather conditions such as temperature, heat index or wind chill, dew point and forecast. From the main menu, you can choose from forecast, radar and maps, severe weather, live cameras, weather news, travel weather, outdoor health, weather fun, photos and videos.

      Look at radar and maps, which is an interactive menu that shows satellite views. You animate the radar by clicking the animate button and can enlarge the screen as well to get a larger view. Move the buttons north, south, east and west to view surrounding areas. At the top are buttons for Doppler, lightning, satellite, satellite/radar, temperatures and wind.

      Set up your alerts. Once you have set your zip code and preferences, you are now able to set up your alerts by going to preferences on the top of the screen. Preferences allows you to change your display, forecast options, connection, weather alerts manager and my alerts and also see a button for “About Weatherbug.” You can even choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

      Decide if you want a paid or free subscription. With the paid subscription, called plus, you can use the tools that allow you to set up what is called my locations. These are for friends and family or just any location you’d like to follow. There are also buttons for plus cams, my alerts, my skins, historical data and support.

      Understand that the storm central window allows you to view extreme weather such as hurricanes and tropical storms. These link you to pages that have more information such as hurricane tracking.
