How to Create and Edit a Google Map

Creating and editing a Google Map is easier than you thought it was. You can include your own spots in the map to remember how to get to places, guide someone else or just add information about places on the image.

Instructions

      Go to Google Maps and click on the left hand side where it says "My Maps." Now enter a place, address or location to search on the map. Let's say you want to locate a few places in Manhattan, then enter New York and move the map until you see Manhattan in your screen.

      Click on "Create new map" so this search is saved as your new map. Enter a title and a description for it.

      Placemark, now you can edit the title and information on it.

      Let's say you want to add a spot near Central Park. Choose where you want to put it. Using the tools on the top left corner, click on the "add placemark" and drop it on the spot you chose. Now you can add a title to it, a description and even edit some of the HTML and post a picture. Once you are done, simply click OK.You will be able to move this place mark and add information to the marks as many times as you want.

      Editing tools

      The tool "Draw a line" will allow you to place lines between two spots to give directions or show an intersection, for example. You can also add information to the lines you place, such as a title (could be the name of the street where you place it) or a description.

      Sharing tools

      Once you are done editing your Google Map, you are ready to save it and post it on your website or send it to your friends with the tools you will find on the top right corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Save all your changes

  • You will be able to come back to your map as many times as you want and make changes on it.

  • If you post the map on a website, whenever you make changes to it, the changes will show on your site and you won't have to post it again.
