How to Prune Squash Plants

Squash is a crop that comes in a variety of different colors, shapes and sizes. It is an easy to grow crop but it can take up a lot of room in your garden. Here are some tips to help prune your squash plant back.

Instructions

    • 1

      Before you can begin to prune a squash it must have produced 4 to 6 fruits.

      Get the pruners and identify one of the runners.

    • 3

      Leave intact some of the leaf nodes past the last fruit you want to keep. With the pruners, cut off the tip at the next node.

    • 4

      Repeat with all the runners you wish to control.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when pruning the sqash so as to not step too much on the leaves or the main root.
