It only takes salt and hot water.
It only takes salt and hot water.

To cut phlegm and help with sore throats or to clean your mouth, try this salt throat rinse or gargle instead of the store bought chemical creations. This old home remedy does not leave a nasty medicine taste in your mouth after you gargle. It just leaves a salty taste behind. When you can’t rush to the store, try this much less expensive alternative to store bought throat and mouth rinses. You won’t be pouring strong chemicals down the drain either, just salt water.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Table salt
  • Measuring spoons
  • Teaspoon
  • Cup or glass
  • Hot water
  1. Step 1

Fill a glass or cup with very warm or hot water. You will be putting this in your mouth and throat but not swallowing it, so don’t make the water so hot that you will burn you.

  2. Step 2

Measure a teaspoon of salt and pour it in the warm water. If you don’t have a measuring spoon, just use one of your regular silverware teaspoons. This doesn’t have to be an exact measure. Then stir the salt around in the water with the spoon until it dissolves.

  3. Step 3

Put your head back and put a mouthful of the liquid in your mouth, gargle it in your throat for half a minute or more, swish it around in your mouth and spit it out, Repeat until the glass of salt water is gone. You can repeat this method again anytime during the day if you like. This is an easy and cheap way to create your own home gargle or throat rinse.
