1
Pour the distilled or filtered water into a clean mixing bowl. Add the standard vinegar, not apple vinegar, to the bowl. Stir the solution until it is well mixed and a consistent color.
-
2
Pour the solution slowly into the iron’s water specific chamber. Set it to steam and leave the iron on for 4 to 5 minutes so that the solution can collect the clogging materials and partially evaporate. Leave the iron in the upright position, otherwise you may end up with a corrosive mess.

3
Allow the heat to dissipate. Drain the water and vinegar solution from the iron. All of the clogging materials should fall out as well. While pouring the fluid out, scrape the inside of the iron with a plastic device to get extra clogs out.

4
Use a mixture of water and vinegar on areas that you find materials stuck. Make the same consistency of vinegar and water and put it into a spray bottle. Spray the affected areas three to four times with the solution. Sprinkle a conservative amount of baking soda onto those areas. A chemical reaction will occur; use steel wool to scrub those areas.
-
5
Wash away all residue after cleaning. Heavily saturate a soft cloth and wipe down all the areas the cleaning solutions touched.

6
Do this once every 3 months even if there is not an obvious clog, as it is also an effective preventative measure.
