How to Check Your Driving Record Online

Your driving record can have a large impact on quite a few things. Businesses often check a driving record before they decide to hire someone. You may want to know what appears on your record when you're investigated. Perhaps you want to know if any of your past transgressions are still recorded. It can take a month to receive this information through the mail. If you have a credit or debit card, you can check your driving record online.

Instructions

    • 1

Log onto the Unofficial Guide to the DMV website (see Resources). From here, you will be able to access driving records in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia.

    • 2

Select the state where the license was obtained. To do this, find your state on the large map found on the DMV home page. Place your mouse over the map and click on the state. If you're searching for Hawaii, Alaska or Washington, D.C., you will have to click on the link found directly underneath the map.

    • 3

Click on the "Driver's License" link found in the "What Can We Help You With Today?" box. You will be taken to a brand new web page. Each of these pages will be somewhat different depending on which state you chose in the beginning.

    • 4

Read over the new web page and find the right link. For most states, you'll be given the option to check driving records for either business or individual use. Choose "Individual Use," since you're looking into your own driving record. Once you've done this, you will be redirected to a third party website.

    • 5

Enter the appropriate information on the next web page to check your driving record. For every state, you will need to enter your name, address, birthday and driver's license number. You also need a debit or credit card to complete the order. In the "Delivery Information" portion, select "E-mail." Enter your email address in the correct box on the Web page. When finished, click the "Submit Order" tab at the bottom of the page. As soon as your record is processed, it will be sent to your email account.
