To lay out type in Adobe InDesign, you must first create a text frame. All InDesign text is contained inside of these text frames, and the frames can be moved, resized and adjusted to any shape required. To draw a text frame, first select the Type Tool from the toolbar on the left side of InDesign (the Type Tool looks like a large capital T).
-
2
After selecting the Type Tool, click inside of your InDesign page where you want the top left corner of your text frame to be, hold down the mouse button while you drag out the text box down and to the right, and then release the button when your text frame has reached the correct size. If you hold down the Shift button while you drag, your text frame will be a perfect square.

When you have completed dragging out your text frame and released the mouse button, a blinking cursor will appear at the top left of your frame. Begin typing out your text just as you would in any word processing program. The text will flow throughout your text frame until it is filled and then will move to the next page.

Tips & Warnings
You may resize your text frames by clicking on the Selection Tool (the solid black arrow) in the toolbar, then clicking and dragging on the edge of your text frame to move it to a new location.
To resize or reshape your text frame, first click on the Direct Selection Tool (the solid white arrow) in the toolbar, then click and drag on any of the edges of your text frame to move that edge. The Direct Selection Tool only moves the edge you have clicked on, while the Selection Tool moves your entire text frame.
