Buying movie tickets is usually the most tedious part of the movie-going experience. Most movie-goers are often frustrated by long lines for blockbuster movies, and sometimes turned away if the movie has been sold-out. If you're looking for the quickest and easiest ways to buy movie tickets, follow the steps below.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

If you'd like to purchase tickets the traditional way, be at the movie theater 30 minutes before the movie starts. Being at the theater early ensures getting a ticket to a sold-out movie.

  2. Step 2

Go to the ticket counter and announce the movie you'd like to see, and your time preference. There are usually many time options you can select. The cashier will tell you the price of the tickets, and you have the option to pay by cash or credit card.

  3. Step 3

Avoid long lines and buy movie tickets at the kiosk. Many movie theaters have automated kiosks near the ticket counter that you can use to buy tickets instead. These kiosks require credit cards for payment. Most people still choose the traditional method of going to the ticket counter, so the lines for the kiosk are always considerably shorter. The kiosk will print out the tickets and you can proceed inside the movie theater.

  4. Step 4

Purchase tickets online. Many websites (see below) offer the options to purchase tickets through their service. These companies usually charge a service fee of $1 to $2. If you purchase tickets online, have your credit card handy, and an active email address.

  5. Step 5

Go to the movie ticket website, and enter your zip code and select the theater of your choice. Choose the movie you would like to see. Also, select the time. If you have not registered, it may be required before you're allowed to purchase.

  6. Step 6

Buy the tickets with a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc). The ticket confirmation will be sent to your email address. Some companies send the actual ticket voucher to your email address.

  7. Step 7

Take the printer confirmation or voucher to the ticket counter, and the cashier will exchange it for theater-issued movie tickets. Additionally, you may be able to print off your tickets at the kiosk, if the theater has this option.

  8. Step 8

Buy movie tickets through TiVo. If you have a TiVo DVR, go to "TiVo Central," and select "Music, Photos, Products, and More." Select the "Browse and Buy Movie Tickets" option. Choose the movie you would like to see, and follow to prompts to buy the ticket. You will need to enter your credit card information. TiVo partners with Fandango. You can choose to print off the confirmation, or use the kiosk at the movie theater.

Tips & Warnings
  • Search the Internet for Promo Codes for movie ticket websites. Promo codes are meant to be used, and will provide you discounted prices for movie tickets.
  • Prices are lower for the first showing of the day.
  • Not all theaters have the options to buy movie tickets online.
  • Only select movie ticket websites that have a good reputation, like the ones in the links selection. Be careful about entering in your credit card number.
