Cherries are some of the sweetest, most decadent fruits available. They perk up pies, cobblers and ice cream, and complement so many popular beverages. Cherries in their raw state, however, are fit rivals for their sugary, preserved cousins.Raw cherries are much more expensive than maraschino cherries or cherry pie filling. That means it is even more important to make sure that the cherries you buy are as delicious as they can be. Here, you will learn how to choose the perfect cherries.

    How to Choose Cherries

  1. Step 1

Look for a bag full of mostly dark, purplish cherries, filled in with a few bright red ones. The darker the cherries, the sweeter they will taste.

  2. Step 2

Pick up the bag with the best color. Look through the clear plastic at the cherries inside, searching for mold or rotten parts.

  3. Step 3

Buy the bag if the cherries look plump and firm. Squishy cherries are usually somewhat flavorless.
