Yahoo Instant Messenger allows for conversation and file-sharing, making it a diverse product. Installing it can be accomplished fairly easily with few tools.

    How to Install Yahoo Instant Messenger

  1. Step 1

    Your computer needs to have at least 25 megabytes of free space to download Yahoo Instant Messenger. You will also need to be running an operating system that it at least as new as Windows 98 for most of the features to work correctly.

  2. Step 2

    Visit Yahoo’s Instant Messenger site and download the program.

  3. Step 3

    Choose the version of Yahoo Instant Messenger you prefer. There are versions for Vista, Mac, Windows and Mobile devices.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the Download Now button under the version you choose. You will be prompted to either run or save the application.

  5. Step 5

    Allow the program to download. It will take approximately 60 minutes on a dial-up modem and 10 minutes on a cable or DSL connection.

  6. Step 6

    Follow the installer instructions once the download is complete. The installer will prompt you for an installation location. Be sure to install the program in a location you will remember.

  7. Step 7

    Restart your computer if necessary. Many computers require a reboot after installing new programs to fully function.

  8. Step 8

    Open Yahoo Instant Messenger to make sure it works properly. Run the program to check that all the features work correctly.

  • Select a messenger platform that will work with your computer. Do not select the mobile application if you’ll be using it on your home computer.
