How to Set a Geographic Location for a Picasa Photo Gallery

Picasa is Google's free photo imaging software. With Picasa, you can organize your photos into specific galleries centered around a particular event. When sharing your images with friends and family, it's helpful to display the geographic location on an attached map that shows where your photos were taken. Whether it's a destination wedding, honeymoon or spring break getaway, you'll always remember where the pictures took place.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the homepage of your Gmail account. You need a Gmail account to set up an account on Picasa Web Albums and upload photos.

    • 2

Click "Photos" at the top left of the Google navigation tool bar. You should then be directed to your Picasa dashboard, which features all of your listed and unlisted photo galleries. You can also access the photos by clicking "More" and "Photos."

    • 3

Choose which album you want to set the geographic location for by clicking on the album cover. This can be any listed or unlisted album.

    • 4

Click "Edit" and "Album Properties" from the top navigation bar. This opens up a window where you can input information about the album, including the title, date, description and the place taken.

    • 5

Enter as much information as you can into the "Place Taken" cursor box. You can be as specific as you want. For example, you could simply enter the city and the state (Dearborn, MI) or the landmark, city, state and zip code (University of Michigan, Dearborn, MI, 48120). When you are done entering the location, click the "save changes" button.

    • 6

You will now receive a yellow highlighted message at the top of your album that says "Your album has been updated." Close out or quit Picasa.
