Heath Ledger's deranged "Joker" from "Dark Knight" is perfect for Halloween. His costume is frighteningly unkempt with pieces deliberately worn around the edges. This Joker has a dark and menacing image, contrasting with his cinema predecessors. According to the AOL Moviefone Poll, Ledger was voted the summer's best movie villain, defeating his competitors, sweeping 95 percent of the votes. Step into Joker's worn shoes for Halloween.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dye or wig
  • Gel and/or oils
  • White paint
  • Sponge
  • Black shadow
  • Red paint or Lipstick
  • Collared shirt
  • Tie
  • Green vest
  • Suede purple jacket
  • Striped pants
  • Worn black shoes
  • Multi-color socks
  • Black leather gloves
  1. Step 1

Get the hair. Ledger's Joker hair was a green-blond. Apply temporary dye or get a wig. Then put tons of hair product, such as gel and oils in order to get the oily, scraggly look.

  2. Step 2

Get the face makeup. Smear white paint unevenly around the face, so that some of the skin tone shows. You can apply the paint with a sponge. Do not apply white paint on the eyebrows.

  3. Step 3

Use a wet sponge to apply black shadow around the eyes. Ledger's joker has uneven, dirty eye makeup. Again, the look is imperfectly smeared on.

  4. Step 4

Smear on red paint or lipstick on the face with your fingers. Ledger's lip makeup is a clown gone deranged--it is not perfectly applied. The lip paint does extend further outside of the mouth up on the cheeks.

  5. Step 5

Get a collared shirt, tie and vest. Ledger had a gray collared button-up that had a snakeskin pattern beneath a hexagon pattern. Ledger's tie was gray with a pattern cream and black pattern on it. Get a button-up green waistcoat or vest.

  6. Step 6

Get a loose fitting, long suede purple jacket. There is also satin red detailing in the inside. The jacket truly looks like something you could find on a rack at a thrift store.

  7. Step 7

Get pants. Ledger had vertical dark and light striped purple pants that hit the ankle.

  8. Step 8

Get multi-colored socks and shoes. He wore socks with a pattern of purple, creme and green boxes. He also had worn, beat-up black lace-up shoes.

  9. Step 9

Get the gloves. Ledger wore black leather gloves in the movie.
