How to Throw an Adoption Shower
An adoption is a time of joy and excitement and, of course, is a time to celebrate. While most people expect to throw a baby shower for a friend who is pregnant, often they will forget that adoptive parents also appreciate and enjoy the chance to celebrate their new child. Taking the initiative to throw an adoption shower for a friend is a great way to let them know that you see their adoption as the joyous arrival of a long-awaited little one.

1
Talk to your friend or co-worker who is adopting about the possibility of a shower. Ask if they would like one and when would be the best time to hold it. Because adoption timelines can be very unpredictable, showers often need to wait until right before the baby comes home or even a few weeks after her arrival.

2
Decide on a shower theme. Traditional baby shower themes are often great choices. Just be sure to stay away from decorations that have pictures of pregnant women or focus a great deal on the birth of the child. If you want to vary from the ordinary, you could consider a shower theme that highlights something special about the expectant parents or the child, such as the country the child will come from in the case of an international adoption.

Consider the child that is being adopted. Are the parents expecting an infant, a toddler or even an older child? Make sure that you note this on your invitations so that guests will know what type of gifts to purchase.

4
Plan the rest of your shower the way you would any other baby shower. Add some games or activities if you choose, order a cake and plan time to open presents. Don't forget to have a great time!
