How to Build a Pond Fountain
A pond fountain adds a spectacular visual aesthetic to your pond that can be enjoyed by everyone. The good news is these pond fountains can be built and installed in your pond using basic hand tools. Pond fountains usually include a skimmer, bio-filter, pump and tubing. Assemble your pond fountain by attaching the bio-filter and skimmer to the pump using the proper fittings. Each pump will require different filters and skimmers so read your manual to find out specifically. Some will come with everything you need to put it together.

Locate the spot where you want to put your fountain and measure the depth of the water in this area.

Locate a basin or pot that will hold your pond fountain and drill a hole in the bottom that can accommodate your tubing for the water pump.

Thread the pump tubing through the basin and attach it to the fountain pump.

Using a shovel, clear the roughage and about 4 inches of dirt from the bottom of the pond where you wish to install the fountain.

Install the pot or basin in the pond bed. Fill the basin with rocks until you are satisfied that the basin will stay in place.

Make adjustments to the height of the fountain to be sure it is level with the surface of the water. Then test the fountain by turning it on. The result should be an even and aesthetic spray of water.

Tips & Warnings
If your pond level rises and falls, you should consider a floating fountain. You can anchor these in place using a chain and cinder blocks. Typically, these will not require a basin and work just like any other pond fountain.
Solar-powered pond fountains are also available. These eliminate the need for tubing that holds electrical wiring.
