Things You'll Need:
- Model paint
- Small brushes
- Masking tape
-
Step 1
Clean the car. It's not good to paint over a dirty surface with loose old paint if you want the new paint to adhere correctly. Since it's electrical, do not submerge the car. If you can dismantle the body from the chassis and separate it from any electrical parts, that is best.
-
Step 2
Sand the car. If there are any rough surfaces, use fine-grain sandpaper to smooth them out.
-
Step 3
Prep the surface. Plastic bodies do not need primer, but if your slot car is made of metal, any bare metal areas should be coated with metal primer. Apply the primer smoothly and sand lightly after.
-
Step 4
Mask the car. Unless you are painting the car a single color, you will need to use masking tape to tape off areas as needed while applying various coats. This will depend on the particular design you have in mind.
-
Step 5
Slot car trackSpray, then brush. Spray-paint the larger surfaces for the best finish, then use a small brush to fill in the smaller details of your design. Don't forget to mask off the areas you've already painted. Let the finish dry, and then get ready to head for the races with your shiny luxurious slot car.
