Use Arcademic Skill Builders.com

ArcademicSkillBuilders.com is more than just a place to play games. Yes, you play video games, but the games are specially created to reinforce basic academic skills, and will teach kids how to do basic math and use correct English quickly. The games on this site will motivate, fascinate and keep the interest of students, and kids learn without even realizing it. Best of all, it’s free.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to arcademicskillbuilders.com. Their homepage is very colorful and will immediately get kids excited to play. Notice that there are four orange-colored tabs running along the top of the page. Two of them will be discussed here (see Resources below).

    • 2

Click on “Manual” for a teachers guide to explain the best way to use this site. Kids usually do not need instructions on how to play video games. What this section does, however, is give teachers a way to motivate competition and ways to chart a child’s results so the child can see his progress.

    • 3

Click on “Games” to choose the appropriate game for the specific child that will be playing. Choose from either math or word games, depending on what area you would like to see your child improve in.

    • 4

Click on “Capital Penguin,” located under the single player list of games. Here, kids try to match the capital of the state with the state's name. At the end of the game, kids can see their score and what they've missed. The results will list the correct answer so the child can remember it for next time.

    • 5

Click on “Verb Viper” to teach your child how to use verbs correctly. Is it “are” or is it “is”? Your child will know for sure after playing this game.

    • 6

Click on “Demolition Division” to teach speed in division problems. This game, like all the other math games on this site, helps with speed. Because the child wants to have a high score, the games encourage him to think faster.
