Things You'll Need:
- 2 or 3 potatoes
- 4 ounces dried beef (shredded)
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 cups milk
- salt and pepper to taste
- 6 to 9 mushrooms (whole, canned or pickled)
- 4 to 6 slices of cheese (American or Cheddar)
- toothpicks or bambo skewers
- map pins with a small colored paper banner glued to each one.
-
Step 1
TO BAKE THE POTATOES: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Scrub potatoes. Bake until tender (about 1 hour). Prick with a fork to test if they are soft in the middle.
-
Step 2
TO MAKE THE CREAMED DRIED BEEF: Melt 1/4 cup butter in a large frying pan. Then add 4 ounces of shredded dried beef and cook for 4 to 6 minutes on medium heat. Slowly add 1\4 cup of flour, stirring as you add, until it is all blended together (it will be very thick). Take the pan off the hot burner. Slowly add the 2 cups of milk, stirring as you add, until it is all blended together. Place back on hot burner and heat to boiling, stirring constantly. It should be thick. Add salt and pepper to taste (you may also add other spices such as garlic salt etc. if you want more flavor).
-
Step 3
ASSEMBLE THREE MEN IN A BOAT: Hollow out part of the baked potato so it looks like a boat. Fill the hollow with creamed dried beef. Cut a sail from a firm slice of cheese or used presliced cheese. Take a bamboo skewer, cut it off to the size you want and put on two slices of cheese. The pointed side of the skewer should go into the boat leaving the blunt end to stick the map pin in with the banner. Now put a toothpick in each of the three mushrooms (three men) and stick them in the boat. Use the picture above as your guide.
