How to Score a Sacrifice Hit in Baseball
The sacrifice in baseball is one of the most noble things in all of sports. The batter bunts and gives up his turn at the plate to advance the base runner (or runners). Most of the time, the batter will get thrown out at first. However, if there is an error made on the play or the batter is exceptionally fast, he may reach first base safely. This is known as a sacrifice hit. Here's how to score such an occurrence.
Instructions

-
1
Locate the proper box for the batter in your scorecard.
-
2
Draw a line from home plate to first as you would if the batter got a single.
-
-
3
Write the letters “SH” somewhere in the middle of the box. “SH” stands for “sacrifice hit.”
-
4
Mark any errors that occurred on the play in the same box. You should write this information underneath the “SH.” For example, if there was an errant throw made by the catcher, you would write “E2.”

Tips & Warnings
Remember that this only counts as a hit in the game if there are no errors on the play. Check the scoreboard to see how the play was officially scored.
There can only be a sacrifice hit if runners are on base. Otherwise, the play is either a single or a "reached on error."
