How to Set Page Margins Using Microsoft Word 2002

Microsoft Word 2002 lets you customize the page margins in your Word documents. Adjusting the page margins allows you to personalize your documents and change the normal appearance. Once you learn how to to set the page margins for your documents, you'll be able to allow for different kinds of layouts, accommodate lots of text, or simply customize the document to the fit you need.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open your Microsoft Word program. Access the word document that you will be editing. Click on the menu bar and choose “File,” then “Page setup.” This opens the “Page setup” dialog box. This is where you will set the page margins for your documents. There are three tabs listed here, “Margins,” “Paper” and “Layout.”

  2. Step 2

    Choose the “Portrait” setting under “Orientation” if you want your documents to print lengthwise. Choose “Landscape" if you want your documents to print in a horizontal direction. If you change the orientation for your documents, the Microsoft program will also change your margin settings to fit the changes.

  3. Step 3

    Choose the drop down arrow next to “Multiple pages.” Here is where you will choose the way you want the text to be positioned in your document. The options that you have to choose from are “Normal,” “Mirror margins,” “2 pages per sheet” and “Book fold.”

  4. Step 4

    Choose the page margins under “Margins” in the top left hand corner. The margins will be set according to what you choose. You are able to set the “top,” “left,” “right,” “bottom gutter” and “gutter position” margins.

  5. Step 5

    Click “OK” to close the “Page setup” dialog box. Verify that your document is set according to the margin settings that you chose.
