Motion Sickness may feel like your body is taking revenge

Motion sickness is a chronic condition where the affected individual feels dizzy or nauseous when riding in a car or on amusement park rides, trains, cruise ships or other moving vehicles. Even some motions can start motion sickness feelings. Having suffered from motion sickness problems for more than 30 years, I have found ways you can fight motion sickness and even do activities you enjoy again.

Things You'll Need:

  • Supplements
  • Health Care
  1. Step 1

Try herbal remedies in your fight to end motion sickness. These are not drugs, but rather supplements that enhance the body's ability to cope. You may need to take the herbal remedies up to a week in advance for them to be effective. They are helpful to fight motion sickness because they have minimal side effects and do not cause drowsiness. Tablets or liquid are most common for motion sickness. There are links to helpful supplements within this article. If you are unsure, ask your health care provider or shop at a health food store.

  2. Step 2

Avoid looking out the window for long periods of time or staring at telephone wires when riding in a car. This alone can lessen feelings of motion sickness. Fix your eyes on one location and do not move. Try not to drive with those who have stick shift, as shifting gears will increase your motion sickness. Sit in the back seat if you can if you suffer from motion sickness.

  3. Step 3

Sip ginger tea or place pure minced ginger root in your food or beverage before you travel to fight motion sickness. This can help alleviate symptoms of motion sickness, especially nausea. Ginger must be from the root itself, not from a spice sold in a jar to be effective against motion sickness afflictions. You can also try liquid ginger extract.

  4. Step 4

Chew on a fresh mint leaf or try essential oil mint drops for the nausea that accompanies motion sickness. Do this as soon as you start to feel motion sickness starting.

  5. Step 5

Avoid eating large meals, as this can bring on motion sickness. Instead, eat crackers and starches and smaller meals before traveling or going on any rides to help your motion sickness. If you feel dizzy, keep the crackers on hand to keep something in your stomach to avoid motion sickness.

  6. Step 6

Wear motion sickness wristbands with magnets on each wrist. These are often made of cotton or nylon with a small magnet in each band. It is important to wear the motion sickness wristband in the proper position as directed on the package. Motion sickness wristbands can be worn all day and are safe for the entire family.

  7. Step 7

Test the remedies to see how they fight motion sickness before you venture out. Many have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to fight motion sickness. In the case that it fights motion sickness, try increasing your herbal dosage slightly, trying different activities or combining treatment methods.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tell others you suffer from motion sickness. They may be able to minimize your exposure by driving on less curved roads and avoiding frequent stopping and starting.
  • Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications such as Dramamine can have side effects and cause drowsiness. Try to limit or avoid these remedies if possible.
  • Consult your health care provider if you are taking any type of medication before starting motion sickness remedies.
  • Follow the directions on the bottle or package carefully when taking any supplement.
  • NOT a substitute for medical advice.
